It has been recently revealed what Liverpool had wanted from Juventus in the recent transfer window. The team did not get the player they wanted to sign from Juventus in the first place and had to go with the second preference from the same club.
Liverpool Wanted Denis Zakaria
The sources have claimed that Liverpool was interested to sign Denis Zakaria on a loan agreement from Juventus.
However, as the deadline approached, the club had no other option but to go with Arthur Melo who is also playing for Juventus.
Liverpool Wanted to Strengthen their Mid-fielding
For those not fully familiar with the players, Liverpool is aiming to strengthen its mid-fielding. However, the club had announced that it was done with signings, meaning it wasn’t going to pay any more in the form of transfer fees.
Therefore, the club wanted to go with acquiring a midfielder on a loan. The club had been eyeing Denis Zakaria from Juventus but as the transfer window deadline approached, Juventus launched talks with Chelsea for the player.
However, Juventus still had Arthur Melo available for loaning and as the player was to fill the same spot, they went with him instead.
Denis Zakaria
Denis Zakaria is a 25-year-old professional player from Switzerland who recently joined Juventus back in January of 2022. Ever since joining Juventus, Melo made 11 appearances for the club, scoring 1 goal for the team.
Zakaria began his professional football career at Servette back in 2014 and played there until 2015 until moving to Young Boys.
At Young Boys, Zakaria played until 2017 making 50 appearances and scoring 2 goals until he moved to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017. There, Zakaria played 125 matches and scored 11 goals as a defensive midfielder.
Zakaria has been loaned out to Chelsea for a one-year contract. The loan agreement also has a term that Chelsea can buy the player by the end of the season if they want.
Arthur Melo
Arthur Melo is a 26-year-old midfielder from Brazil and he has been linked with Juventus since 2020. The player has made 42 appearances and has scored 1 goal for the club.
Melo started his professional career at Gremio back in 2015 and played there until 2018. He made 35 appearances for the club and scored 2 goals until he moved to Barcelona from 2018-2020.
At Barcelona, Melo made 48 appearances and scored 3 goals until he moved to Juventus. Melo will be playing at Liverpool for a year and if Liverpool wants, the player is up for buying at €37.5 million.
The reason why Jurgen Klopp had to make the move was to make up for the injuries and crisis they are facing with their mid-fielding.
