Despite his stellar performance, Thomas Tuchel will be sacked by the new management of Chelsea that has been in charge for just over 100 days. The decision is already deemed controversial by many fans of the blues as the team prepares for their upcoming matches without their head coach. This transition period may be very painful for Chelsea, since finding a proper replacement for Tuchel may be close to impossible.
Thomas Tuchel Career
Thomas Tuchel was signed in January 2021. He has been fulfilling managerial duties for 469 days and reached incredible heights with the team winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and even FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Brazilian Palmeiras. Chelsea also managed to get second place three separate times: twice in the FA Cup and once in EFL Cup.
His career at Chelsea was excellent as he managed to reach a solid 60% win rate and 24% draw rate which is comparable to his time in Borussia Dortmund. Nevertheless, his performance seems to be underwhelming by the standards of new owners. Tuchel was removed from his position following a 0-1 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Chelsea FC is cited to be preparing to approach Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. and ask for permission to discuss the potential hiring of Graham Potter, an experienced Premier League manager with a less impressive career compared to Tuchel, but with a reputation for a reliable and confident coach capable of holding any team together during turbulent times.
Zinedine Zidane’s Return?
Many experts believe that the club will also try to approach Zinedine Zidane who left Real Madrid in 2021 and Mauricio Pochettino who left Paris Saint-Germain on July 22. Both managers are currently free and can be a significant improvement over Tuchel if the stars align favorably. It will be quite interesting if Pochettino will take the reigns of the team because Tuchel managed PSG before taking over Chelsea FC.
Tuchel has some promising prospects as he was the favorite when RB Leipzig and Barcelona were looking for a new manager. We will see whether Chelsea’s decision will bring a better result in the nearest future.
