AEK Athens has recently shocked the fans of Fulham and Nottingham Forest with a major announcement. The club has reportedly signed one of the major players from the “free agents” list.
AEK Athens Signs Djibril Sidibe
Djibril Sidibe, a 30-year-old defender from France has reportedly been signed by AEK Athens, a professional football club from Greece.
The Greek club was a step further when it comes to exploring the player’s interest and signing him into a contract.
AEK Athens Beat Fulham and Nottingham Forest
As the player completed his contract in Monaco, he was a free agent and up for grabs with any club wanting to sign him up for a significant fee.
Multiple football clubs, including the major English Premier clubs, had shared intentions of signing the player. Among these clubs were Fulham and Nottingham Forest.
The clubs had enquired about the player back in July and were keeping an eye on the player’s activities. They were interested to offer a contract to the player and the excitement level of the fans at each club was also very high.
However, the outcome was unfortunate for Fulham and Nottingham Forest as AEK Athens was able to beat the couple in signing Sidibe.
Sidibe’s Career Details
Djibril Sidibe started his senior football career back in 2010 at Troyes. At Troyes, Sidibe played from 2010 to 2012 and in his 41 appearances, the player scored 1 goal.
From Troyes, Sidibe moved to Lille and he played as a defender there from 2012 to 2016, making 102 appearances and scoring 8 goals for the club.
Later in 2016, Sidibe moved to Monaco and he remained at the club from 2016 to 2022. At Monaco, Sidibe made 129 appearances and he was able to score 4 goals.
While at the club, Sidibe was sent on a loan to Everton from 2019 to 2020, where he did not score any goal but made 25 appearances.
Now, Sidibe has moved to AEK Athens on a two-year deal, remaining at the club until 2024. Despite being a free agent, the overall value of the player in the free agent market was €8 million.
Up until now, the highest value of the player was €15 million when he moved from Lille to Monaco.
Sidibe Expects a Leading Role at AEK Athens
Sidibe has stated that he is hoping to play a huge role for as long as he gets to stay and play for AEK Athens. He hopes that his presence makes a great difference for the team and keeps all of them highly motivated.
Even at the age of 30, Sidibe is the most valued player at AEK Athens so the clubs would definitely have high hopes for the player.
